Why Do We Marry? In the passage of Matthew 19:4-6, we read that the Pharisees asked the Lord Jesus a question about divorce.
Jesus explained to them what marriage is, where it came from and why God joins a man and a woman together.
Jesus asked the Pharisees ' Haven't you read the scriptures?' Jesus was referring to the first two chapters of the Old Testament. This is where we read how God made the first two people, a man and a woman, male and female (Genesis 1:27). Then Jesus goes on to talk about Genesis 2:24.![]() |
God's Purpose With Marriage With Baba Bishop Nelson Nzvimbo in Building Happy Marriages (Part 1) |
God brings people together in Marriage
Jesus explains in Matthew 19:6 And in Mark 10:9 that it is God who joins a man and a woman together in marriage. That is what God did with Adam and Eve. Jesus says God is still doing this today. God leads the man and woman to each other an He joins them together. The words actually mean: God puts the man and his wife under the same yoke.
The Lord uses many ways to bring a husband and wife together. Some couples have known each other from childhood. Others meet at school, at the Church, at their work or in their sports activities. Some couples were introduced by their parents, and others by their friends. No matter where or how how they meet each other, it is God who brings them together.
It is God who puts love for each other in the hearts of a man and a woman. He treats in them the desire to give themselves to each other. He joins them together for the rest of their lives.
"You can be sure that God mad at our wife or husband form you. God meant you for each other. From your birth He prepared you and formed you to fit together. God wants you to live for each other.
"Your marriage therefore comes from God . Therefore you must see your marriage as a calling from God. God calls you to live together as man and a wife. It will not always be easy, but God wants you to work together to build up your marriage. You must also serve God in your marriage. God is is interested in every part of your lives.
"You yourselves decided to marry each other before God. Therefore each of you must care for the other , make each other happy and help each other.
