Your Partner, Your Bestfriend (Part 2)

One husband and one wife

Genesis 2:24.

God only made one wife for Adam. Today God still chooses one husband and one wife for each other (Malachi 2:15). The first person in the Bible to have more than one wife was Lamech (Genesis 4:19-24). But we also see he was a wicked man.

You can completely give yourself in love to only one person, as long as he or she lives. Exodus 20:5 says God tolerates no rivals, which means He does not allow any other god to compete with Him. And as God does not tolerate any rivals, in the same way true love between husband and wife cannot tolerate any rivals. There simply is no room for another woman or another man in your heart. The two of you can only truly become one if you allow no one else to interfere.

The Most Important Relationship

Ephesians 5:25.

In the eyes of God marriage between two people is the most important relationship on earth. Marriage is an example of the relationship between God and his people in the Old Testament (Hosea 2:19-20). The New Testament says marriage is like the relationship between Christ and his church (Ephesians 5:24-32). No other relationship demands that two people become one.
Your Partner, Your Bestfriend (Part 2)

Just as God loves his people, the husband must love his wife. Just as Christ gave his life for the church, the husband must give himself to his wife. As the people of God trust Him, the wife must trust her husband. As the church gives itself to Christ, the wife must give herself to her husband. Your husband or wife must be your best friend. No other friend or family member must be more important to you than your own wife or husband. This is how God wants it to be.

If a couple believes that God brought them together they will feel they have a solid foundation for a happy marriage. Their marriage is like a miracle from God. Through marriage they have indeed become one. God joins them together to live together to his glory in a unity that cannot be broken. “No human being must separate, then, what God has joined together.” (Matthew 19:6)

Because of this special relationship between husband and wife, this unbreakable unity, they will be found together most of the time. They will be serving God together. They will grow together in their spiritual life. And they will keep on building their unity, respecting, loving and serving one another. This will prevent the Evil One from interfering in their marriage and causing them to be unhappy.

I would love to hear from you, please like, comment and share.
