If our scope of worshipping God is Him doing things for us, we surely don't understand what to worship means.
Worship is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity. A deity is a supernatural being, a god, that is worshipped by people who believe it controls or exerts force over some aspect of the world.  Deity comes from the Latin word for god: "deus".

The divine nature of a deity is believed to be immortal goodness and powerfulness. In Christianity it is the creator and supreme being that rules our lives.

In Christianity, worship is the act of attributing reverent honor and homage to God.

Our biblical example is In the Old Testament Job 1:1-22 & in the New Testament, Luke 10:25-28. Various words are used to refer to the term worship. One is proskuneo ("to worship") which means to bow down to God or kings.

So worship is what we do in obedience to what our God asks of us. Romans 12:1
